My Boss Doesn’t Have Kids

I work in a fast paced medical hospital for a boss that doesn’t have kids of her own. This means she doesn’t understand why I need time off of work during the day. I am a mother of three, and I want to see their school plays, go on their field trips and attend their award ceremonies, but when I ask for the time off of work, my boss goes nuts and says no. I don’t think it is fair that I have to miss these important events, especially when I am willing to work over to make up the time.

I finally found a way out of this mess. When I know I need to miss work to attend a school function, I just use blank doctors notes. I can use the template to get an excuse to miss work for just about any medical reason I can think of. Having the free doctor’s excuse means that I do not have to ask my boss for time off, and I don’t have to get yelled at in front of my colleagues or my patients. I simply fax, e-mail or drop off the doctor’s note, and then I have the whole day to spend with my kids at their school events.

You can learn some great stuff from this site:

I refuse to feel guilty about this because I know I am doing what is right for my family. When I see the kids’ smiling faces when they find my face in the audience, I know I have made the right decision. No parent should have to miss watching a child grow, learn and succeed. Kids simply grow up to fast to miss put on these important milestones. I want memories of my children and not of my boss when I get older and look back on these days.
